Who we are

A freight forwarder and customs broker working a single trade lane: Atlantic Canada to the Netherlands, and back again.

The company

We only work one route

A large carrier treats this corridor as a feeder into a hub somewhere else. Boxes get transhipped, schedules slip, and the person on the phone has never seen your container.

Our answer was to pick one lane and put a named coordinator on every account. That does limit us: if you need cargo moved to Singapore we are the wrong company. The trade-off is that when you call about a shipment, whoever picks up already knows which ship it is on and where the customs file has got to.

Customs sits inside the business rather than being contracted out, because that is the part of a Canada to Europe movement most likely to cost you money. Anyone can arrange a container. Fewer people will tell you, before you book, that your goods will not qualify for the preferential rate you were counting on.

How we are held to account

Licences, bonds and cover

These are the actual requirements for operating this business in Canada and the Netherlands. Ask us for our numbers against any of them and we will send them.

Carrier codeFreight forwarder code issued by the Canada Border Services Agency
$250,000Minimum per-occurrence forwarder liability and errors and omissions cover, at the level CIFFA requires of members
$50,000Security a Canadian customs broker licence requires, under the Customs Brokers Licensing Regulations
Fiscal repDutch representative appointed, which is what makes Article 23 VAT deferment available to a non-resident importer

A house bill of lading puts us first in line if cargo is lost or damaged, which is the reason the insurance figure above matters more than it looks. Sources on the sources page.

Leadership

Who runs each part of the corridor

A small team, so you will end up speaking to these people directly.

Managing director

Halifax

Twenty years in Atlantic Canadian liner trades. Responsible for the commercial position, vessel deployment and the customer relationships that carry the schedule.

Director of customs

Rotterdam

Licensed broker in the Netherlands. Owns classification, origin and valuation policy across both jurisdictions, and signs off every preference claim we file.

Head of operations

Halifax and Rotterdam

Runs the berth windows, the equipment pool and the inland legs at both ends. The person who decides whether a late booking still makes the vessel.

Named biographies and photographs will replace these placeholders before launch.

Nova Scotia roots

Why Halifax

It is the closest North American container port to Europe, it stays ice free through the winter, and the rail runs onto the dock. The Port of Halifax puts rail transit to Chicago, Detroit and St Paul at four to seven days. Those are the reasons, and they are checkable.

Dutch partnership

Local hands at the European end

Our Rotterdam partner holds the Dutch licences, including the fiscal representation that lets non-resident importers defer VAT under Article 23. Customs, terminal relationships and onward transport are theirs to run, in their own time zone.

Notices

News that affects your cargo

Operational notices and tariff changes. Short, and only when something actually changes.

CARM security: check your figure before 20 October

Importers post their own Release Prior to Payment security directly with the border agency now, and the required amount is recalculated every 20 October against the previous twelve months.

Customs

Rotterdam handled 14.2 million TEU last year

Up 3.1 per cent, and still ahead of Antwerp-Bruges. Relevant to anyone depending on onward connections out of the port.

Network

More reefer plugs booked ahead of the autumn season

Additional powered positions taken on the Halifax terminal for the lobster season.

Operations

Rules of origin: what we ask you for

The documents behind an origin declaration, and why we would rather see them before the first booking than after a verification letter arrives.

Compliance

Come and look at the operation

Shippers moving serious volume are welcome at the terminal on a working day. It is the fastest way to judge whether we are the right carrier for your cargo.
